I climbed Kilimanjaro in 70 hours [MY CHILDHOOD DREAM]

Summary

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, has always been one of my childhood dreams. Last August 11th, at 09:30, I reached its summit, Uhuru Peak, after just 70 hours of fast yet gruelling ascent through jungle, mooreland and alpine desert landscapes. I thought the whole experience was going to be fun… it ended up being one of the top 5 things I’ve ever done. Here’s how it all went. Let me know if this isn’t the absolute best video we’ve ever produced, btw. Massive props to our editor Isaac.

I just finished one of the most amazing experiences of my life, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in less than 70 hours from the beautiful wild forests of Tanzania to the highest peak in Africa. Here's how the adventure went.

Last August 8, I started to climb Mount Kilimanjaro through the onward route. The most challenging route on the road to the summit. There's a most Senate non technical wrap up the mountain, get few people to take it. The route is quite taxing due to the fast ascension to high altitude it does not provide the necessary stages for acclimatization and says the chances of success are very low on this route. Traffic is also very low good level of fitness is absolutely mandatory to successfully cover the 53 kilometers or 32 miles of tracking that are required to reach all peak the summit of the mountain. Most truckers completed in five days. We did it in 70 hours.

Day one from Alma gates to only camp. The first few kilometers up the mountain run through coffee and banana plantations at some point a trail as sent sharply on authority track which winds up to dense rain forests the path narrowed and steepen as we climbed a ridge between two rivers surrounded by a huge trees how close just an hour from here, less half an hour. Finally, the Omo camp appeared purge between trees and thick undergrowth.

Day two from onward camp to Barranco Camp. To second day of the trek follow rock your terrain with sparse undergrowth and straggly mask over trees as we can elevation glimpses of Kilimanjaro could be seen to path eventually flatten as we traversed as strange but beautiful seneschal forest and reach Barranco Camp important moment because we are about sea to snowy summit of Kilimanjaro. There it is. That's the Kilimanjaro we're going to be climbing in the next couple of days.

This is the last stage of the forest. We are above the clouds. We just surpassed the cloud level and we are about to enter the desert there he goes. Mount Kilimanjaro at Bronco camp at 4000 meters with 13,000 feet high I started noticing the effort of altitudes I got a persistent headache Dan wouldn't go away until after I had submitted it.

Day three, from Barranco camp to Barafu Camp via karanga camp. On the third day, the first thing we did was climbing the non technical pits deep and dangerous 1000 fit Clift that took us out of the Barranco Valley. Then we cross a series of hills and valleys until we're descended sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb led us to the camp before 9am. Instead of spending the night in karanga. to acclimatize, we continue until the next camp located at an altitude of 4700 meters.

This camp Barafu marked the end of the Southern circuit which had offered views of the summit from many different angles. At this point, the two peaks of my Wednesday and Kibo were viewable from our tent.

Day four from Barafu Camp to the summit vs telepoint and the Kilimanjaro crater. Very early in the morning on day four around 4am We begin are pushed to summit to what's the most mentally and physically challenging part of the track. The wind and cold at this elevation made it very difficult. We are ascending the darkness for several hours until we were able to contemplate one of the most beautiful dorms I had seen in my life. 6am install funky Manjaro up there one hour and a half away from setup point 7500 meters We're having a great pace.

So you're at a summit we are close to 5700 this is the Merwin speak tomorrow and the sea of clouds. Then at 9:30am on Thursday elevens we arrived at Google peak to highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. What's going on
