How to Win the War in Your Head

Summary

In most humans, the mind is a battlefield where it is easy to lose oneself. The mind shapes every detail of our reality: it is just as easy to think ourselves into peak performance and success as to fill our lives with low performance, frustration, and failure. "Rule your mind or it will rule", as the roman poet Horace said. What if there was a way of resolving this conflict without needing to meditate for 20+ years and be spiritually awoken? It turns out there is.

What would happen if you realize you are your own worst enemy and decided to do something about it?

[INTRO] Welcome back. Hey, I'm Leon Castillo, founder of Selfmastered. A high performance training company that helps entrepreneurs scale their businesses by solving their solid bottleneck, their own performance, which was formed the unproductive, overwhelming and focus entrepreneurs into laser focused business athletes that can achieve in one day, what they previously achieved in one week.

Today, I want to talk about how you can think yourself into peak performance success and great results. But also think yourself into failure, misery, and just being totally unhappy. The mind has the ability to shape the reality that we inhabit. By way of giving meaning to our experience, we can essentially create our own adventure, but what if the experiences you are leaving are not aligned with who you want to be? What if you are just not getting the results you want? What if you keep failing at whatever it is that you're trying to do? Or do you just never get started? And you procrastinate, or you keep hammering your head with negative thoughts, whatever you are losing the battle in the mind? Well, there is a way out. And it all starts by understanding how does the mind work, and I'm gonna use a mental model that as all mental models is essentially wrong. But it is very useful because the best mental models are still wrong. But they're useful and is the mental model of the thinker, and approval, essentially. And this comes from Dr. Leonardo, or that postulate that the human mind essentially has two sides, right? It's like a human operating system in which you have one part of the brain that is focused on thinking on imagining scenarios. And then the other part of the brain is busy seeking validation and proof of the thoughts that the first part of the brain have thought, right. So you have the thinker and the approver, the thinker thinks and approver proofs. And why is this important, because as you go through life, you imagining things, you create scenarios, you make plans, you say targets, you create beautiful images in your head about what's possible, and what's not possible about what happened and what is about to happen. And those thoughts cannot be controlled, they just arise, you do not have control over the things that you think even the most experienced meditators cannot tame their mind. So essentially, there's nothing that is off bounds for the thinking part of the brain. Now, the problem is that that thinking side of the brain comes up with high ideas, thoughts and beliefs based on the conditioning that we have had in the past, based on the beliefs that have been instilled in who we are, when we're kids when we do not have control over the thoughts that we entertain. So that thinking part of the brain is not entirely free, because it's been pre programmed by the people that raised us when we were kids. So that's the first caveat. And this is important because you only think the things that you believe can be thought which leads to the biggest idea of this video that if you do not only believe in things that are possible to you, you would only seek to prove because the prover always is seeking to prove whatever the thinker thinks you will only prove the things that you intimately believe to be possible.

So if for whatever reason, you have a model of reality, and a model of yourself that is not aligned with who you want to become or you're going DAP prover will seek as much proof as it needs to convince you intimately that yes, you do not have the ability to get where you want to get the thinker will create thoughts that the prover will always prove. And this is why you have a battle in your mind, because you want to go somewhere, but you are not seeking the necessary proof. You need to convince yourself intimately that you're truly able to get there. This is why you have a battle in your mind. So how do you solve this riddle? How can you dissolve this battle, and essentially progress towards your goal with ease in a manner that is enjoyable without suffering? Well, by seeking to invalidate all the belief systems and thought patterns that does not align with where you want to go and who you want to become every time you have a negative thought, every time you have a faulty belief that doesn't allow you to progress. You need to seek proof that that belief system is wrong, that that thought process is flawed. And over time. This doesn't happen on an instant it takes a bit of time, you would only entertain thoughts that are actually useful. That doesn't even matter if the true or not. What matters is that they're actually useful to you, which is why I'm a huge proponent of Have not watching the news because the news, for instance, is information that has been commoditized and packetize, in order to create impact, negative impact in your mind.

So you remember those news and you become hooked to the dopamine hits that come from reading them. And the thoughts that arise from those news are seldom positive. So the prover will have cannon farther to find ways by which your business and your life will not turn out to be the way they should. An example of this would be imagine, as you're probably doing, if you're watching this channel, that you're now every single day in the trenches of entrepreneurship, willing to affect change in the world willing to build your business of progress in your career. Let's say that you open the news in the morning and you start reading about inflation, deflation, economic crisis, what do you think the proving side of the mind will do with that information will start seeking way of proving through the information about inflation and recession, that why your business is not working, you will find excuses that you can create and believe, to excuse for your lack of performance or lack of results. That's very just one example of how you can hurt your chances of true progress if you listen to the wrong people, if you let in the wrong information. So as a recap, there's essentially two sides in the human mind. One is the thinking side. And the other one is the proving side thinking side essentially is creating scenarios, plans, targets goals, imagining things in the future, revisiting stuff in the past, entertaining illusions in the present. And most of those thoughts are just not useful. And the proven side of the brain is always seeking to prove that those thoughts are real based on your previous programming. So if every time you fail at something, you entertain the belief or the thought that you're maybe not good enough, the promise of rain will make sure you find an example in the past that proves that you're just not good enough. So my suggestion is pay no attention to negative emotions. Pay no attention to faulty information, pay no attention to the people and things that do not help you get where you want to get.
